A little over six months since injury...
Quick update: I've continued with most of the Saturday morning rides and a couple 5:30 AM rides per week (T/TH starting at pistol range if anyone wishes to join us). I even surfed those huge world famous Pismo waves a few weeks ago. I didn't expect to be able to stand up so I was going to paddle around to just get out on the water. I decided to try one wave and was able to ride it all the way in. You couldn't even tell I was injured until I got out of the water and made the trek back to the car. I had to stop and rest on that return trip a few times because walking on sand as a gimp is hard work. Overall, my leg is still pretty weak and the recovery continues to be a very slow process. I walk w/a cane approximately 1/2 the time now, mostly when I have a lot of distance to cover. I leave it be when I'm puttin around the house or office.
Life has definitely returned to a more normal rythm now that I'm riding again. I think I read somewhere that nobody gets left behind so I'm planning on returning to the Wed night ride this week. We'll see how that goes.
Hopefully with the twice a week physical therapy at G and G, the cycling routine, and exercising at home, I'll be closer to my old self in another six months. Doc still says it will be at least a year from injury before I feel my normal strength and possibly even 18 months.
Thanks again for all the support from all of you since I crashed. I still feel like a burden to some but I appreciate the help, support and concern I've been given. If you see a guy riding kinda a lopsided and who has one leg bigger and stronger than the other, that'll be me. Be sure to wave as you pass by me. Happy trails...
